Analysis of the ThinkPad T410 – Core i5 2.40 GHz from Lenovo.

And to begin with…

Experienced users do not have the same needs as beginners. You are looking for a laptop and you hesitate between several models.Your computer will not be limited to technical specifications, so we have built a test plan according to the use you will make of it.To help you, we have tested this model according to several parameters.
So you’ll know what it’s worth at the end of this article.

ThinkPad T410 compatible with internet use?

We can consider that for certain uses, such as surfing the web, it is not necessary to buy a high-powered model. This ThinkPad T410 is a lower quality laptop for those who are not very attentive. The material used by Lenovo are of average quality and the components have characteristics that are already dating. In other words, don’t expect to keep it for more than 3 years.
With a 14.1 inches size, you’ll be able to carry it easily. No touch screen available on this model. It’s a shame because, when you get this ThinkPad T410 on your lap, you’ll see that it’s not so easy to move the cursor with the touchpad.
Nevertheless, it remains a quality product with an easy to use trackpad. Logically, the treatment given to this product by Lenovo suggests that you will be able to use it for many years to come.
With a processor Core i5 2.40 GHz, Lenovo offers an already outdated technology. A technical choice to reduce the final price of the laptop. For a few euros more, it is possible to switch to more powerful processors. So certainly, with this laptop you have enough resources for internet surfing and word processing, but you may have to change it in less than 5 years. Very clearly, with only 8 Gb ofRAM, this laptop is not the best equipped model. Chances are you’ll have to add some memory over time. Your computer will work better and longer.
The disk size of this laptop is among the smallest on the market. With only 1000 Gb, Lenovo considers that you won’t need to store too many files locally, and that you’ll rather do it on a public cloud. And if really this point was blocking for you, you can always buy an external hard drive and plug it into the usb port.
Last point concerning the autonomy of 6 hours: A time of freedom that you will have to take into account and keep the power kit not too far away. Batteries store little energy, and the computer consumes a lot of energy when it is used. A lower autonomy is harmful, because the ThinkPad T410 is easy to access, and you have a lot of fun using it for a long time.

Is ThinkPad T410 one for watching movies and listening to music ?

Lenovo presents this laptop as a standard product dedicated to a low-resource usage. Due to its characteristics and internal components, this ThinkPad T410 is to be classified as entry-level: not exceptional, but on the other hand, not expensive. Finally, a simple computer, yet not really made for audio and video.
This small model is equipped with a thumb screen 14.1, in 1920×1080, and a good quality of colours. The colours are faithful, warm enough, and the contrasts allow a high level of detail. The only criticism that could be drawn is its size, which makes it a small device compared to other competing models at the same price; over a whole day, it can tire the eyes. However, this computer has a criteria that will interest some nomadic users, the weight; here it weighs only 2.9 kg, partly thanks to its small screen size.
Like the majority of the laptops screen on the market, this model is equipped with the glossy finish.  Lenovo is primarily intended for film lovers the ThinkPad T410. Taking full advantage of the backlighting, this tile benefits from the glossy coating which offers more contrasts. Also note that potentially this screen will be more stressful to the eyes, after 2-3 hours of use in a row.
On the sound side, it ThinkPad T410 has good components: board and integrated speakers. By pushing the volume with music, we tested the rendering. Even if the result is good, be aware that even the best laptops will never beat a hi-fi system on this point. If necessary, you can later supplement with external elements if you consider the results too insufficient.
Even if the use of this laptop does not require the latest generation of processor, be aware that it Core i5 2.40 GHz is now outdated. As a result, in the important calculation phase, it may be a little brighter, and will consume more energy. However, as long as you only run one application at a time, it may be enough.
As far as applications are concerned, did Lenovo not install any. Only the operating system is installed. This is a Windows 7 Professionel on which you can install the software you need. Clearly, to watch movies, nothing more.
Due to the level of the graphics card, you have one Intel® UHD 600, which with 8 Gb de Ram, will allow you to make multimedia (movie viewing, and some simple photo retouching). Sufficient for the majority of you, this will not be the case for those who want to make 3D images.
Connectivity is unlikely to be a priority for Lenovo. Indeed, it ThinkPad T410 has only 2 ports. It’s a little tight for you to plug everything in at once.
It ThinkPad T410 is one of the worst endowed laptops on the market. Indeed, with 6 hours of autonomy, it is one of the worst specifications. A management of the time available to take into account when you are on the move watching a movie. Therefore, it is best to use this computer constantly plugged into an outlet, without worrying about battery life.

Is ThinkPad T410 planned for travelling ?

Easier to transport than a desktop computer, it is not intended for travelling. This seems to be the issue that the Lenovo didn’t really take into account in the design of this ThinkPad T410. Having tested this laptop in situations as diverse as traveling, in a suitcase between shirts and jeans, while traveling between home and work, on a family weekend, here’s what you should remember.
Reserve its use at home, between your living room and your bedroom.
Its light weight allows you to take it wherever you want. It’s one of the best in its class. It’s hard to have a large, lightweight laptop; the compromise is made according to your use. A 14.1 inches size that can be painful when you have to stay there for more than an hour.
If you prefer the touch screen mode, you will be disappointed by this ThinkPad T410. You’ll have to remember to always carry a mouse with you. The alternative could be the keyboard trackpad.
This model is supplied with a shiny slab. The rendering on screen is good. The disadvantage will come in the event of using it outdoors with a lot of light.
Unfortunately it is not equipped with anti-reflective tiles. You will have to limit uses when the sun is too bright.
Too bad for the processor Core i5 2.40 GHz that equips this computer; it is one of the weakest of the moment and moreoverit consumes too much power.
Note that like all manufacturers, Lenovo is optimistic about the autonomy of this ThinkPad T410. You will need to expect 2/3 of this estimate for standard use; if you push the processor, the number will drop a little more.
Unfortunately for the specifications of the batteries will only allow 6 hours of availability, one of the lowest at the moment.
Even if the use of this laptop is dedicated to business trips and travelling, it will be more comfortable in an office mainly. The reasons are its size, and the hard drive that the brand Lenovo decided to put in it. About the hard drive, Lenovo has chosen a classic technology for its 1000 Gb hard drive; Good when it comes to storing data (photos, music, movies), less good for the time it takes to boot up or get out of standby mode. The disadvantage is that the boot phases will be slower than on an SSD technology disk.
Even though your laptop will stay in the hotel more often than in a briefcase when you take it to the airport, you will appreciate its volume. Equipped with a compact 14.1 inches screen, it is one of the smallest models of the moment.
The manufacturer offers only a few connection options, with only 2 connectors. This makes it one of the least well equipped models currently.
This model unfortunately does not have bluetooth; a shame when it comes to exchanging photos with your loved ones on holiday, or sharing an internet connection.
Following our tests, it appeared to us that it is not ThinkPad T410 really made for travelling.

The ThinkPad T410 to make audio or video editing.

Definitely not intended for audio and video editing. This type of use requires power and memory, which this model lacks. However, this does not prevent you from editing as long as you are patient and no other applications are launched. Here, both the processor and the general design of the model are obsolete. It will be more suitable for word processing and Internet browsing, and as soon as you try to run applications in parallel, you will have frozen screens and a rise in computer temperature, whose processor will quickly reach its operating limits.
The software suite installed by default on this model provides the bare minimum to start working. You can always try to do video editing with the processor Core i5 2.40 GHz. You’ll soon discover that the processor lacks power and memory.
Having a hard disk of 1000 Gb, you will be assured of a good storage capacity. A disk size equivalent to competing products. And that’s what you’ll need to store your films and music locally. For reasons of speed of execution, we would have liked Lenovoto favour the installation of an SSD type disk instead of the standard one. The SSD would have been much faster than the current one even though the life span is shorter.
As with most laptops, don’t expect incredible battery life (6 hours). It’s not much, and it’s best to let it plugged in while you’re editing audio or video. Maybe the next model will be better off.
Unfortunately not equipped with a USB 3.0 port as standard. This means that you’ll have to be patient when you decide to transfer your audio-visual mounts to an external key or disk.
In the end, it is a product not allowing audio and video editing. However, it will be perfect for web browsing and word processing.

ThinkPad T410 the right choice to play online?

It is now possible to use laptops for online or local gaming. Clearly, if your only need is to play games with this ThinkPad T410, it may be better to go to other models. Clearly, Lenovo has done nothing here to meet that purpose.
This laptop has a resolution in 1920×1080, which is one of the poorest existing today. In fact, the game phases will present lower quality images.
The technological evolution being wha it is, this model does much less than many other laptops. Tests have shown the limitations of this laptop, including some image degradation and processor temperature rises. Clearly, if you want to use it to play all day long, it may be relevant to turn to a more powerful model.
Since Lenovo has not designed this model for gaming, the display system is not dimensioned for an exemplary reactivity during your gaming sessions. Unless you play games with designs older than 5-10 years.
On the question of hard drive size, this model is not very good.1000 Gb are the minimum for computers today, making it one of the laptops with the least amount of space.
On the practical transport side, this model is one of the lightest on the market, with 2.9 Kg.
Note the disadvantage in terms of autonomy: it is one of the lowest with 6 hours available.
In the end, we do not recommend this ThinkPad T410 for games; low performance will degrade the rendering and playability. But it can be a good choice for office functions.

Is the ThinkPad T410 adapted to office automation ?

This product could wrongly make you think that this is what you need. Here are the main reasons.
Here, this model runs under a standard OS. It’s the latest version of Windows 7 Professionel that’s running it.
Not all basic office applications may be available on this model. You will have to download the applications you need, which implyies for some software a slight increase in the overall cost.
Among the choices available to you, it will be interesting to take into account the weight in order to facilitate its transport. A weight of 2.9 Kg, which makes this computer one of the best in the lightest category.
The numeric keypad is not present on this model. As soon as you’ll have to do calculations on a spreadsheet, it will be less simple.
No anti-reflective treatment on this ThinkPad T410. However, if you work all day on text or spreadsheets, a matte screen would be preferable. As far as the colour palette is concerned, it is well balanced even if they are less faithful than the colours your TV set gives you.
The storage of this model, 1000 Gb, is one of the smallest. If you are used to backing up everything locally, you will have to think about adding an external hard drive, because the hard drive ThinkPad T410can be quickly filled.
Simply put, it’s not ThinkPad T410 the best choice for office use. It would be more suitable for other, simpler uses, such as web browsing.

In short, is the ThinkPad T410, the right choice ?

The conclusion of the test ThinkPad T410 is that almost all its specifications are below the others. Its aging technology will make its use disappointing fairly quickly.
This model does not seem relevant to us for :
– web browsing
– listening to music and watching videos
– travel use
– make audio and video editing
– playing video games
– office tasks
